After-hours parties held in private homes when Boston nightclubs
shut down can turn from harmless gatherings to violent melees, police
say, where some guests arrive with guns and others leave in
ambulances.
A social phenomenon since the early 1970s, the parties are
typically hosted by people who do not want the fun to end at 2 a.m.
when Boston night spots close. Disc jockeys are hired, alcohol is
sold and invitations are circulated in clubs by flier or word of
mouth.
In the past few years, as the number of guns on the streets has
increased, police say, so has the number of party goers shot or
stabbed, some fatally, at after-hours parties, and police predict the
casualties will continue ...
