Rocking a baby to sleep may feel great to both parent and child,
but it may also teach some babies that they cannot fall asleep
without help, a new study by doctors at Boston City Hospital and the
Lahey Clinic suggests.
Babies whose parents were with them when they fell asleep were
twice as likely to wake up during the night as babies who did not
have a parent with them, according to a study based on questionnaires
completed at the Burlington clinic's medical center by the mothers of
122 full-term, healthy 9-month-old babies.
Many other factors -- such as parental depression, stress and
employment -- have been shown to affect night waking in babies, but
