Those elements ruled last night's fifth annual Pepsi Boston Music Awards -- a lively, sold-out Wang Center affair keyed by a surprise performance by the New Kids, a moving hall of fame tribute to Roxbury's New Edition and a symbolic mending-of-the-wounds between the rock and dance/Top 40 camps that have battled for supremacy since the awards began.

"Let's open our minds. We're supposed to be a city -- not a civil war," New Kid singer Donnie Wahlberg said backstage.
