New Kids on the Block.
New Edition.
New harmony.
Those elements ruled last night's fifth annual Pepsi Boston Music
Awards -- a lively, sold-out Wang Center affair keyed by a surprise
performance by the New Kids, a moving hall of fame tribute to
Roxbury's New Edition and a symbolic mending-of-the-wounds between
the rock and dance/Top 40 camps that have battled for supremacy since
the awards began.
"Let's open our minds. We're supposed to be a city -- not a civil
war," New Kid singer Donnie Wahlberg said backstage.
Despite prior complaints and boycotts by rock stations WBCN and
WFNX, there really was something for everyone last night. New Kids
on the Block won three awards, including the ...
