We've all had nights when the refrigerator's contents are too
meager for us to create a dinner, and no one volunteers to run to the
store. The larder becomes the inventive cook's best friend, the
source of a meal assembled from canned or packaged goods, root
vegetables, frozen and refrigerated staples. Some, such as onions
and potatoes, tuna and spaghetti, are obvious. Also essential,
however, are ground tomatoes in puree, canned cannellini and black
beans, roasted peppers and capers. The possibilities listed here ,
