Art deco is not a style usually associated with the nation's
capital, but Washington has a number of examples of the period,
according to architectural historian Linda Lyons. Between the 1920s
and the 1940s, "Washington had a lot of growth," she says.
Lyons will lead a March 24 tour of period architecture in the
area, sponsored by the Art Deco Society of Washington. The tour
spotlights about 50 structures, including bridges, government
buildings, houses and a bus terminal.
At three destinations, the group will stop to see such details
as the concrete mosaic panels in the original National Airport ...
