It may not be the same as putting a skydome on Fenway Park or furloughing the Swan Boat gondoliers, but local elegance has been diminished since the Ritz-Carlton Dining Room stopped serving weekday lunch.

In a bygone era, the Ritz Dining Room was the place where Boston tradition went to eat.

"In 50 years, I've never had a bad meal," said Mildred Albert, who organizes fashion shows in the Dining Room on Saturday afternoons. "Joseph {Lucherini} is the most unique maitre d' in the world. He makes you feel like the queen of England."
