FOR ONCE, dance presenter Carla Perlo's newest endeavor wasn't
one of her own good ideas. Carla's Kids, her just-created company of
6- to 10-year-olds, came about because of the strong desire of a
couple of outspoken children who had seen a performance of Perlo's
adult troupe, Carla & Co.
"It wasn't because I wanted to do it," says Perlo, the founder
and director of Dance Place. "The company was formed because two
young children went to their mothers and said, `This is so great --
when will it be my chance to be onstage?' The mothers called me. So
I put a flier out, and within a week I had 15 kids, and I accepted
10."
