As allergy sufferers probably suspect, pollen counts have been
soaring, and yesterday's count was the highest this year: 2,306
grains per cubic meter of air.
This is nearly six times the level that allergy specialists
consider "severe."
The recent levels have been "extremely high," in part because of
the beautiful dry weather, says Dr. Wilfred Beaucher, an allergist
and partner at Allergy Immunology Associates of Chelmsford and
Methuen and Nashua, N.H.
"Normally, there are only a handful of days when the pollen counts
reach 1,000. We've already had a week at that level," he says. The
worst times are those when there is little rain to cleanse the air
and the pollen "keeps on being blown ...
