PORTLAND, Maine -- About 200 students, faculty members and alumni
turned out yesterday at Portland International Jetport to welcome the
University of Southern Maine baseball team that won a national
championship.
Team members arriving home from Battle Creek, Mich., were greeted
with music by a jazz band and placards by fans hailing the Huskies
for their victory in the Division 3 World Series.
Southern Maine blanked Trenton State, 9-0, in Tuesday night's
title game behind the six-hit pitching of lefthander Robert Aceto,
whose 11th victory in 12 decisions set a school record for wins in a
season.
