The Fiesta Bowl apparently has taken the lead over the Citrus Bowl
in the race to become the fourth bowl in the alliance that is being
worked out among the Orange, Cotton and Sugar Bowls and major
conferences.
"Unless the money is absolutely unbelievable, we would be opposed
to having the Citrus Bowl as the fourth bowl for a number of
reasons," said a source familiar with the negotiations. "The
proximity of the Citrus Bowl {in Orlando} and the Orange Bowl {in
Miami} is one big stumbling block. And I'm not sure if the Citrus
Bowl can come up with the money {approximately $3.2 million per team}
that is required."
