Article: Kevin White: Where are give-'em-hell leaders?

One thing about Kevin White, whether you liked the former mayor or did not, was that he would spill his guts.

His minions of public relations soldiers would be lined up in platoon formation with rehearsed responses at the ready, and then White would meet somebody in a hall and sabotage the whole flack program by verbally voiding what was really on his mind.

Cynics said it was all orchestrated, and others swore it was purely at random. Perhaps it was a bit of both. Whatever it was, the listener would profit, because White was, at once, more incisive and poetic than just about any pol, journalist or consultant.

He still is.
