The news is not good for more than 270,000 senior citizens: Blue
Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts yesterday filed a request
seeking to increase the cost of Medex health insurance by 21.3
percent, or as much as $22 a month.
If this rate is approved, it will hike most bills to $114.33 a
month -- more than double the payment required only three years ago.
The state Division of Insurance must approve the increase for Medex,
which supplements Medicare services for senior citizens.
Local advocates for the elderly said they were dismayed and
surprised by the size of the proposed increase. Only two years ago,
Medex rates rose 67 percent, prompting fury from many senior citizens
and calls for ...
