LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Movie director Frank Capra, the Sicilian
immigrant who reflected the hope, vigor and individualism of the
American spirit in such classics as "It's A Wonderful Life" and "Mr.
Smith Goes to Washington," died yesterday. He was 94.
Mr. Capra died in his sleep at his La Quinta home, said his son,
Tom Capra, executive producer of NBC's "Today Show" in New York.
Mr. Capra, whose film career stretched back to the silent era,
won three Academy awards, for "It Happened One Night," "Mr. Deeds
Goes to Town" and "You Can't Take It with You."
His films of the 1930s -- "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," "Lady
for a Day," "Broadway Bill," "Lost Horizon" -- depicted his deep-felt ...
