As his electoral defeats continue to mount, the Republican
establishment is urging Malcolm S. "Steve" Forbes to join the other
vanquished presidential candidates on the sidelines. But Forbes
insists he won't quit, and the reason is simple. While he says the
others ran for pragmatic political and personal reasons, he is
running on faith: faith in the supply-side economics movement that
his unusual, self-financed candidacy has come to epitomize.
"The issues and principles of this campaign are bigger than a
single candidate, bigger than the campaign," the millionaire
publisher declares at stop after stop on the campaign trail. "And
therefore I plan to stay in for the duration."
