WASHINGTON -- The Palestinians named a team of advisers
yesterday composed entirely of people unacceptable to Israel,
provoking a crisis of confidence between Israel and the United States
just one week before historic peace talks are to open.
At an East Jerusalem news conference, Palestinian leaders said
that the seven-member advisory team will accompany the 14-member
negotiating team to the talks in Madrid.
The announcement of the group of advisers, which includes East
Jerusalemites and Palestinians from abroad, infuriated Israeli
officials in Jerusalem and Washington, with some officials accusing
the Bush administration of trying to trick ...
