OAK BLUFFS -- This is what it's all about. Nantucket and
Martha's Vineyard on a cold November afternoon.
With about four minutes remaining in the game, Vineyard linebacker
Tom Wood looked to his best friend Rusty Ventura, who was shaken up
in the second quarter, and said with amazement, "We could win this.
We could win the Cup."
A few minutes later, Wood's prophecy come true when he intercepted
a Chris Frame pass near midfield with under a minute to play. The
Vineyard ran out the clock for a 14-6 win that not only brought the
Mayflower League Large title and a Division 5 playoff berth, but also
brought the coveted Island Trophy to Martha's Vineyard for only the
