Harvard Medical School, in the wake of controversy about a
Halloween racial incident, yesterday released a statement saying the
matter is still under investigation and reiterating its commitment to
affirmative action.
At issue is an incident at the school's annual Halloween party.
Two white students, John McHugh and Lisa Murphy, arrived in
blackface, dressed as Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and Anita
Hill, the Oklahoma University law school professor who accused
Thomas of sexual harassment. A black student, Maurice Sholas, took
offense at the makeup, and when the pair refused to leave the party
Sholas allegedly struck McHugh in the face.
