LEONARDO
Discovering the Life of Leonardo da Vinci
By Serge Bramly
Edward Burlingame Books, 493 pp., illus. $35
In France, where they order things better, the first thing that
comes to mind when you name "Leonardo" is not a Ninja Turtle but
Leonardo da Vinci, creator of one of the nation's chief tourist
attractions, the Mona Lisa. One of its guards, Serge Bramly tells us
in his new biography of Leonardo, fell in love with the lady in the
painting, talked to her, reacted jealously to visitors who approached
too close, and claimed that she smiled back at him.
