As his nationally televised news conference was about to end
yesterday, Jimmy Johnson had an opportunity to show his softer side.
He'd just had his moment of glory and vindication. The Dolphins had
hired him as head coach for $8 million over four years. The man who
replaced Tom Landry after 29 years with the Dallas Cowboys was about
to take the seat that Don Shula held for 26 years.
Take that, Jerry Jones. The perfect South Florida job at the
top dollar.
Pausing at this climactic moment, Johnson spoke to his
girlfriend. "Rhonda," he said, "we've had a lot of time together in
our two-year vacation."
What would Jimmy, that old romantic, say next in this
