Mary Hott describes the birth of her first child as a nightmare.
Three weeks before her due date, she developed a rash on her belly.
Labor was induced, and because of the pain medication, she went in
and out of consciousness for nine hours. During labor, she felt out
of control, scared, and defeated.
"It was not the birth I had romanticized about, and I kept
thinking, there has to be a better way," said Hott, of Acton. Help
came from a friend who had a nearly pain-free birth and introduced
Hott to Hypnobirthing.
The travail of childbirth is a common denominator for women being
