Business leaders in Northern Virginia are living proof of
Robert Burns's maxim: The best-laid plans of mice and men often go
astray.
Despite their success in helping to create a burgeoning
business center, one of the country's wealthier communities and a
formidable political force, it's clear from recently published
transcripts of some of their meetings that Northern Virginia's
business leaders are bothered by a lack of fulfillment.
Executives in Maryland would probably welcome an opportunity
to trade places with their Northern Virginia counterparts.
Both groups are deeply concerned about the perceptions
outsiders have of their areas. But the comparison ends there.
