Article: FUNERAL HOME CRITICIZED FOR WASTE DISPOSAL SELECTMAN'S USE OF SEPTIC SYSTEM IS CHALLENGED

The chairman of the Board of Selectmen has come under scrutiny for using a private septic system to dispose of waste from his funeral home in downtown Wrentham.

Such a system should not be used for waste generated by the embalming process, according to an official with the state Department of Environmental Protection.

But Richard Ross, the selectmen chairman, and Robert Bogardus, chairman of the town's Board of Health, say RJ Ross Funeral Home is grandfathered into rules governing the waste disposal.

If Ross were forced to upgrade the septic system for his business, he would probably have to spend thousands of dollars on a so-called tight tank to be emptied by an industrial waste hauler, ...
