Article: Alexandria to Test Voting Machines; New System Scans Paper Ballots

Voters in Tuesday's mayoral election in Alexandria vill be using new voting machines that replace push-button technology with a fill-in-the-dots system that might remind some city residents of school testing forms.

Instead of entering booths to push levers or buttons, voters will be given paper ballots on which they will fill in ovals next to their favorite candidate. They will put completed ballots into a machine that scans the selections and tallies the votes.
