Baby boomers seeking new solutions to their health problems are sparking an increased demand for alternative medicine therapies, which can include everything from acupuncture to herbal nutrition, both traditional and nontraditional health-care specialists say.

But what they don't agree on is a prognosis for these disciplines which, taken as a whole, are now a $21 billion-a-year industry, according to the National Institutes of Health.
