What Bill Foster remembers most from his introductory press
conference at Virginia Tech nearly five years ago was the recurring
question: "How full is your tank?" That was a polite way to ask if a
man who already had spent so much energy building two college
basketball programs almost from scratch and who had been out of
coaching for a year would be passionate enough -- at age 55 -- to
lift the Hokies to glory.
Well, Foster admits, the tank isn't full. He hints that
retirement might be closer than anyone imagines -- and Athletic
Director Dave Braine doubts Foster will fulfill the five-year
