Representatives of the Big Ten and Pacific-10 conferences met
yesterday with other officials to talk about joining the college
football Bowl Alliance, a move that would guarantee a national
championship game every January. The move, which could not happen
for at least two years, was discussed with representatives of the
Tournament of Roses and ABC Sports at the conferences' annual
meeting in Phoenix.
The Big Ten and Pac-10 champions currently are obligated to
play in the Rose Bowl, which is not a part of the Bowl Alliance.
That arrangement includes the Fiesta, Orange and Sugar bowls and the
Southeastern, Big 12, Atlantic Coast and Big East conferences, and
