Article: CULTURAL COUNCIL TO GET HUGE BUDGET CUT

The Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency that has been fighting proposed cuts for months, learned yesterday that it is likely to lose $6.5 million of its budget. The 46 percent cut proposed by Acting Governor Jane Swift will mean cuts across the board in state money to artists, nonprofit institutions, and 335 local cultural councils.

Without a veto from the House or Senate, Swift's proposed budget will force the cultural council to make drastic cuts, said Mary Kelley, MCC executive director.
