Is gardening all about flowers? Many would say so, and even
those who urge consideration of other traits in plants admire the
champion bloomers.
The bounty of spring is on every gardener's mind at the
moment, but the need for plants that bloom for extended periods,
especially during the long summer months, should be taken into
account now in planning the season's garden. This is the time to
look for them at local nurseries.
The list of such plants is long when it comes to annuals.
Think of portulacas and petunias, geraniums and marigolds, not to
mention nasturtiums and zinnias.
But when it comes to perennials, there are not that many that
go on blooming for longer than a month.
