Suzonna Moore, a 25-year resident of Capitol Hill, has never
been robbed. Her house hasn't been burglarized. Her car hasn't been
stolen. But crime is rising in her Northeast Washington
neighborhood, and she says D.C. police can't protect her.
So she plans to buy a shotgun.
"If someone breaks into this house, I will shoot them," said
Moore, who was among 100 Capitol Hill residents who attended a
community meeting Tuesday night to discuss legal weapons residents
can use for self-defense.
During the two-hour meeting, D.C. police officers and sales
representatives for personal-safety products made presentations
about tear gas, pepper sprays, personal alarm devices and small
