Article: RESIDENTS SAY CAR WASH WOULD BE INAPPROPRIATE

Residents in Northborough are trying to prevent a car wash and retail store from locating in a quaint section of Route 20 dotted with antique shops, a drive-in ice cream eatery, and a bicycle shop.

A public hearing on the proposal began last month and will continue Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Town Hall. Submitted in May by the Phellco Corp. of Shrewsbury, the proposal calls for a three-bay car wash and an occupant for 3,500 square feet of retail space. The car wash would operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week, and would attract an estimated 130 cars a day.

Northborough does not have a car wash, but there are such facilities in nearby Westborough, Marlborough, and Shrewsbury.
