Article: DEVELOPER USES 40B AS LEVERAGE ON ZONING CHANGE VOTE

A developer says he might be forced to build affordable housing if a zoning change for a parcel of land near Betty's Neck doesn't go his way.

Easecat Inc. of Attleboro has a $1.25 million purchase-and-sale agreement for 68 acres of land owned by Christian Loranger. The bulk of the land is zoned industrial. Easecat and selectmen are seeking a zoning change to residential and will put the matter to a Town Meeting vote in May.

If the zoning does change, Easecat president Ronald P. Turowetz said, he will build 30 to 34 homes that will sell for an average of $500,000, per a contract he signed with selectmen establishing the high-end prices. In addition, if voters approve a second question ...
