Every day, Stephanie Janis rides at least three horses around the
indoor riding ring she shares with her sister in Groton. Janis grew
up in Burlington with a horse in the backyard of her parents' home in
a modest subdivision.
"When I think back about the horse in my parents' backyard, and
look at the neighborhood now, I laugh," she said. Janis explained
that those Burlington neighbors probably wouldn't want a horse there
now.
That change in sentiment is being repeated in Groton.
Janis is a member of the newly formed Groton Horse Council, which
was formed over the summer because horse owners in this once rural
town are feeling pressure from new residents who are not used to
