Article: KOHL'S TOLD TO ACT ON PRICING POLICIES AG ASKS CHAIN TO COMPLY WITH STATE LAW ON SALE ADVERTISING

Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly has notified Kohl's Department Stores that its sale advertising and pricing policies appear to be in violation of state law and has asked that the chain bring its 13 Massachusetts stores into compliance.

The letter from Diane L. Lawton, managing attorney for Reilly's consumer protection division, was apparently based on a four-month Globe inquiry into Kohl's pricing practices that indicated the store's savings claims were often exaggerated because they were based on comparisons to largely fictitious regular prices.

The letter doesn't set out any timetable for compliance or threaten legal action, but it does note that violations of the state's sale ...
