JUST BECAUSE Stereolab is the world's only bilingual Marxist easy-listening groove band, that doesn't mean it wouldn't dominate the field were it to have competition. This prolific London-based ensemble (currently a septet, although composer Tim Gane and Paris-bred singer Laetitia Sadier are the only founding members) borrows shamelessly, but makes of its disparate influences music that's consistently winning and distinctive.
