JUST AS Frank Sinatra recorded his most impressive body of
work for the Capitol label in the '50s, the albums Nancy Wilson made
for the label a decade later remain her crowning glory. Longtime
Wilson fans scarcely need to be reminded of this fact, and they
won't be surprised by many of the splendid songs and interpretations
in the three-CD Capitol reissue set, "Ballads, Blues & Big Bands:
The Best of Nancy Wilson." Yet it's conceivable that listeners less
familiar with her work will find the collection even more enjoyable,
and will be continually delighted and surprised by its abundant pop
riches.
