Article: HARVARD'S MANKIW SEEN AS GOOD FIT FOR US POST ECONOMIST IN LINE FOR KEY WHITE HOUSE ROLE

Harvard economist N. Gregory Mankiw, who was reported yesterday to be in line to head the White House's Council of Economic Advisers, is valued as much for his communication skills as for his economic insights, according to many of his colleagues.

Glenn Hubbard, the current White House chief economist, is planning to step down by spring and return to Columbia University, according to a report in yesterday's Wall Street Journal. No final decision has been made, but Mankiw (pronounced man-kew) has long been mentioned as the leading candidate for the post should Hubbard leave.
