Article: ARAFAT TO APPOINT PRIME MINISTER PALESTINIAN AGREES TO DEMANDS VOICED BY US AND BRITAIN

JERUSALEM - Yasser Arafat, yielding to American and European demands, agreed yesterday to appoint a prime minister to his Cabinet in what reformers hope will be a key step by the Palestinian leader toward relinquishing some of his powers.

The surprise announcement appeared to advance efforts to put Middle East peace making back on track, although Israeli officials have said they want Arafat out of the way altogether.
