Former Random House executive Daniel Menaker, who left the
publishing house in 2001, will return to oversee its book divisions.
The announcement late Thursday by Random House Ballantine
Publishing Group ends a guessing game that has preoccupied the New
York publishing world since the highly regarded Ann Godoff was
dismissed as senior vice president and editor in chief in January
because of her failure to meet financial goals.
