One of the last obstacles to a guaranteed national
championship game in college football could be cleared this week.
Presidents of the Pacific-10 Conference schools will discuss a plan
that would allow the Rose Bowl to join the college football bowl
alliance.
Oregon Athletic Director Bill Moos said he expects the
presidents to approve the proposal, removing a major roadblock in
efforts to guarantee a postseason matchup between the No. 1 and No.
2 teams.
The Pac-10 and Big Ten are the only major conferences that are
not a part of the bowl alliance. The two leagues resisted joining,
preferring to continue the tradition of their champions meeting in
the Rose Bowl.
