Grilled cheese sandwiches, with their melting hot centers and
buttery crusts, are so beloved by Americans that we think of them as
being exclusively ours. Wherever good cheese is made and crusty bread
found, of course, a toasted cheese sandwich exists. It goes without
saying that the better the cheese and the finer-tasting the bread,
the greater your pleasure.Without a huge dose of nostalgia, our
grilled American-cheese sandwiches aren't particularly good. But if
the cook uses something special, like Jack cheese, which melts
beautifully, especially inside thick sandwich bread, you can make a
