Article: Boorda Critic Voices Regrets; But Navy Officer Who Wrote Letter Stands By Comments

A Navy officer, whose anonymous letter denouncing Adm. Jeremy
M. "Mike" Boorda appeared in Navy Times three days before Boorda's
suicide, expressed regret over the incident yesterday but did not
withdraw any of his criticism.
"I am sorry I wrote to Navy Times at a time when Admiral
Boorda must have had many troubles on his mind," Cmdr. John E. Carey
wrote in a second letter to the publication. "Admiral Boorda is the
last person in the Navy any of us ever thought might kill himself."
Carey identified himself in the second letter, which appeared
yesterday, after his authorship of the first letter became widely
known inside the Navy and he was named by the Long Island newspaper
Newsday.
