The recent announcement that Natick District Court could soon be shut down has court officials scrambling for more information and wondering why their courthouse has been targeted.

Natick's court is one of eight in Governor Mitt Romney's proposal, announced Thursday, that would be shut down and consolidated into nearby courts.

The consolidation plan, which is part of a proposal that would restructure the state's judicial system, would save an estimated $3.5 million by eliminating "under utilized courthouses," where judges work fewer than four days a week.
