The road to a town election is often lined with campaign signs.
But in Rockland, a dispute stemming from allegations over the
disappearance of a Board of Selectmen candidate's signs has prompted
a flurry of allegations in the final week before voting.
Merry Sheehan, a self-described community activist and first-time
candidate, says she has been unfairly treated by town officials who
favor her opponent, incumbent Selectman Lawrence Chaffee, in
Saturday's election. Sheehan has taken her complaints all the way to
the Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts, but town officials deny
acting improperly.
About 150 of Sheehan's campaign signs were placed throughout town,
