The story goes that at Wolf Trap before a performance, a
bemused ticket-holder inquired, "Why is it so quiet?" A regular
attendee replied: "Don't you know? has the airplanes shot down over
the Potomac."
"Not shot down, but shut down," said her great good friend
Carol V. Harford, now Wolf Trap director emeritus. "Kay went to the
FAA and asked them to redirect flights away from Wolf Trap during
the season. And they did. Kay went over to the National Airport
tower herself to thank the flight controllers."
