CAMBRIDGE - Some of the best viewing and listening space for the Fourth of July fireworks and Boston Pops concert could be off limits this year, as organizers said yesterday they plan to block off about a half-mile of sidewalk and street along Memorial Drive between the Longfellow and Massachusetts Avenue bridges.

Jersey barriers border part of the construction area along Memorial Drive, where work on a road rehabilitation project has left several holes two feet deep that pose a danger to the tens of thousands of spectators who each year stake out a spot across the river from where the Boston Pops play at the Hatch Shell.
