Article: Arrest Order Is Issued For Colombian Official; Attorney General Linked to Drug Money

The Supreme Court today ordered the arrest of Colombia's attorney general on charges he took money from the Cali drug cartel. The development plunged the scandal-plagued government into further disarray.

Attorney General Orlando Vasquez, whose job is to investigate public officials, is the latest high-ranking target in the unfolding scandal that threatens to unseat President Ernesto Samper.

The Supreme Court ordered Vasquez's arrest on recommendation by chief prosecutor Alfonso Valdivieso. A spokesman for Valdivieso said Vasquez's whereabouts were not known.
