The Supreme Court today ordered the arrest of Colombia's
attorney general on charges he took money from the Cali drug cartel.
The development plunged the scandal-plagued government into further
disarray.
Attorney General Orlando Vasquez, whose job is to investigate
public officials, is the latest high-ranking target in the unfolding
scandal that threatens to unseat President Ernesto Samper.
The Supreme Court ordered Vasquez's arrest on recommendation
by chief prosecutor Alfonso Valdivieso. A spokesman for Valdivieso
said Vasquez's whereabouts were not known.
The arrest order is another major blow to Samper, who is being
investigated by Colombia's Congress on allegations he won ...
