Given little attention in recent months as local officials haggled
with the state over housing plans for the former Medfield State
Hospital site, a proposal to build a golf course on the property has
reemerged as an alternative.
All three Medfield selectmen have indicated some interest in
seeing a golf course on the state-owned property, which is expected
to be sold to a private developer next year. Ann Thompson, the
chairwoman of the board who has been part of ongoing negotiations
with the state, said recently that she would prefer a golf course to
the high number of housing units the state is proposing.
