David Lasser, 94, an author, futurist, retired union official
and former government official who was a victim of congressional
hunts for "disloyal" Americans, died of a heart ailment May 5 at a
hospital in San Diego. A former Arlington resident, he had lived in
San Diego since retiring in 1969.
From 1950 to 1969, he was the economic and research director
of the International Union of Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers.
Mr. Lasser was born in Baltimore and grew up in New Jersy.
Before his 16th birthday, he enlisted in the Army by lying about his
age. In France, during World War I, he was gassed, wounded and
shell-shocked. He fought in the Argonne Forest campaign.
