With more than 8,000 chrysanthemums growing on their farm, Ellen
Long of E&E Greenhouse helps supply Capitol Market with some of
fall's favorite flowers.
She and her husband, Edward, have been planting and cultivating
flowers and vegetables for 10 years at their farm in Apple Grove in
Mason County, where they have more than five acres of land.
But right now, mums make up the bulk of business at the family's
farm stand. The shelves there are filled with hardy mums in yellow,
white, rust and other colors in a variety of pot sizes and prices.
Her gallon pots sell for $6 each while the 12-inch pots go for
$15 each. The plants are big sellers mostly during September and
early October.
