Frank Viola has already gotten a feel for the minor leagues.
Right in the seat of his pants.
"That seven-hour bus ride this morning, I wouldn't wish that
on anybody," he said last Wednesday. "They've got longer ones than
that, too."
Viola, trying to pitch his way back into the majors, made his
second start Thursday night for the Knoxville Smokies, the Class AA
affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. He pitched six innings, giving
up 11 hits and four earned runs while walking none and striking out
two in the Smokies' 10-8 loss to Orlando. Viola was not involved in
the decision.
Viola, 35, has 175 victories in 14 big league seasons, with
the 1988 Cy Young and the 1987 World Series MVP ...
